22 Years in the Making: Arsenal Are Premier League Champions

Written by Ibukunoluwa

22-year wait comes to an end as Arsenal are officially CHAMPIONS. The Gunners eventually sealed their first Premier League Title after 2 decades of trying and waiting. After a season defined by grit, set-piece mastery, and late-night nerves, Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal have clinched their first Premier League title since 2004. Manchester City’s draw at Bournemouth at the Vitality Stadium confirmed it, but this was a triumph built over 37 games of refusal to blink.

It’s finally done. After 37 games, 82 points, and a season of pressure that would break most teams, Arsenal are Premier League champions again. The Gunners didn’t need to kick a ball tonight. But the work was already done, the grind against West Ham, the nervy 1-0 over Burnley, the refusal to blink when it mattered most. Arsenal are champions for the first time since the Invincibles of 2003/04.

A Title Built on Grit, Not Glamour

This wasn’t the free-flowing Arsenal of last spring. This was a team that learned how to win ugly. Mikel Arteta’s side won 14 games by a single goal. They conceded the fewest in the league. They scored over 26 times from set pieces. When the football wasn’t flowing, the mentality carried them through. Against Burnley on Sunday, it was Kai Havertz’s header and Declan Rice’s midfield masterclass that got the job done. Against West Ham, it was Rice again, with a goal by Leandro Trossard. Every time the title felt like it might slip, someone stood up.

Arteta’s Project, Completed

Six years ago, Arteta inherited a club drifting. He was mocked for “process” and “culture”. Tonight, he’s a Premier League-winning manager. He rebuilt the squad around hungry young players and bought leaders to change the mentality. Bukayo Saka became a superstar. Martin Odegaard became captain and creator. William Saliba and Gabriel became the league’s best centre-back pairing. And Declan Rice, a £105m signing, was every penny worth it. They became the heartbeat of the team. This title is his validation, not just for tactics, but for belief.

The Players Who Became Legends

Bukayo Saka: The boy from Hale End carried the weight of a club all season. 14 goals, 12 assists, and countless moments of bravery. Declan Rice: Signed to add steel, he added leadership, goals, and nights like Burnley, where he refused to lose. Kai Havertz: Written off by many, he scored the goal that moved Arsenal one win away and ended the season with 12 league goals. Redemption complete. David Raya, Saliba, Gabriel: The spine that made Arsenal the hardest team to break down in England. And the whole squad, from Jorginho’s experience to signings who couldn’t cut it while at the club, Martinelli’s energy, to the academy kids who stepped up when needed.

What This Means

For the fans who sat through 8th-place finishes, Europa League nights, and “nearly” seasons in 2023 and 2024, this is everything. The Emirates hasn’t felt like this since May 2004. For the club, it ends a 22-year drought and puts Arsenal back where they belong, at the top of English football. And for this group, it cements their legacy. No more “nearly men”. They’re champions.

Final Word

Arsenal didn’t win it with flair. They won it with fight, with belief, and with a manager who never stopped pushing them to be better. The Invincibles had their season. This team has theirs.

Champions of England 2025/26. Arsenal is back.
